Senior Corrosion Engineer at Formosa Plastics

Jack Ai has a diverse and extensive work experience in the field of corrosion engineering. Jack is currently working as a Senior Corrosion Engineer at Formosa Plastics Corporation, U.S.A. since November 2021. Prior to this, they worked as an Industry Principal Engineer at Accenture from October 2019 to October 2021.

Jack has also held the position of Senior Engineer - Materials Corrosion Reliability at Ascend Performance Materials, Chocolate Bayou Plant from August 2018 to July 2019. Before that, they served as a Senior RBI/Corrosion Engineer at MISTRAS Group, Inc., Asset Integrity Management Service from February 2014 to July 2018.

Jack's earlier work experience includes roles as a Research Scientist at the University of Virginia, Corrosion Center from November 2008 to January 2013. Jack worked on various corrosion-related projects during this time. Prior to that, they worked as an Assistant Scientist at Iowa State University, Chemical Engineering Department from November 2007 to October 2008, focusing on corrosion electrochemistry and passivity mechanisms.

Before their academic research experience, Jack was a Research Scientist at Penn State University, Corrosion Center from November 2004 to October 2007. Jack worked on projects related to corrosion electrochemistry, high-temperature corrosion, and hydrogen-induced cracking. Jack also worked as a Postdoc Research Fellow at Tsinghua University, Materials Science and Engineering Department from December 2002 to October 2004, where they focused on metallic thin films.

Jack's early career includes experience as a Mechanical Engineer at Anhui Fuel Injection Equipment Company, Equipment Management and Repair Department from July 1993 to August 1996.

Jack Ai obtained their Ph.D. in Metallic Materials and Metallurgy from the University of Science and Technology Beijing, where they studied from 1999 to 2002. In addition to their degree, Jack has acquired various certifications in the field of materials and inspections. Some of these certifications include API 579-1/ASME FFS-1 Fitness for Service from ASME, Coatings Inspector Program Level 1 from AMPP: Association for Materials Protection and Performance, Science of Non-destructive Testing from the American Welding Society, Aboveground Storage Tank Inspector (API 653) from API - American Petroleum Institute, Corrosion and Materials (API 571) from API, Risk Based Inspection Analyst (API 580) from API, Pressure Vessel Inspector (API 510) from API, Piping Inspector (API 570) from API, Coatings in Conjunction with Cathodic Protection from NACE International, Root Cause Analysis from ThinkReliability, and NDT Training (MT, PT, UT and RT) from MISTRAS Group, Inc. These certifications were obtained at different times between 2016 and 2023.
