FSHISD educates the children of active military personnel.  The district is coterminous with the Army installation Fort Sam Houston, meaning it has the same boundaries as the installation.  We are diligent in our efforts to maintain a strong partnership with the Installation for the sake of our military-connected children.
 
The District is comprised of three campuses – Fort Sam Houston Elementary, grades PK-5, Robert G. Cole Middle School, grades 6-8, and Robert G. Cole High School, grades 9-12.  The student enrollment is approximately 1300.
 
FSHISD has a history and tradition of educational excellence.  The District is proud of its achievements, having earned high ratings in the Texas Public School Accountability System and met all state compliance requirements.  Additionally, the schools have met the Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) federal requirement established by the 2001 No Child Left Behind (NCLB).   For AYP, campuses and their student subgroups were required to meet targets of achievement, assessment, attendance, and graduation rates.
