Mitchell Overmyer is an experienced aquatics professional with a background in animal care and environmental studies. Currently serving as the Life Support Systems Coordinator at Fort Wayne Children's Zoo since June 2016, Mitchell has also held roles such as Animal Care Specialist and Zookeeper, focusing on the care and enrichment of various marine species. Additionally, Mitchell is a member of the African Penguin SSP Steering Committee with the Association of Zoos and Aquariums since January 2023. Previous experience includes working as an Aquatics Specialist at Petco and managing at Rallys Restaurant, where responsibilities included employee training. An active contributor to environmental initiatives, Mitchell held leadership positions at Manchester University, where a Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Studies was obtained. Early work experience includes serving as a cashier at McDonald's in the UAE.

ABOUT THE ZOO Our Mission: Connecting kids and animals Strengthening families Inspiring people to care The Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo is northeast Indiana’s largest tourist attraction, hosting more than 600,000 guests annually. As an AZA-accredited zoo, we are a conservation leader, contributing annually to local, regional, and international efforts to protect wild animals and habitats. The Zoo cares for more than 1600 animals and participates in 63 cooperative species survival plans. As a self-supporting facility, the Fort Wayne Children's Zoo receives no tax dollars for operations. The Zoo’s operations are funded entirely by earned revenue and donations.
