Aerodrome Technical Principal at Fortescue Metals

Darryl Evans has a diverse work experience in the aviation industry. Darryl started their career as a Manager at Jandakot Airport Holdings, where they were responsible for airside and landside operations, maintenance, and compliance. Darryl also played a key role in planning and developing aviation and commercial precincts within the airport boundaries.

Darryl then worked at the Civil Aviation Safety Authority as an Aerodrome Inspector, where they inspected and audited certified and registered aerodromes in various locations. Darryl provided advice to the aviation industry on relevant regulations and standards.

Evans then joined Fortescue Metals Group, where they held various positions. Darryl served as an Aerodrome Manager, overseeing the operations and maintenance of the Solomon FIFO aerodrome. Darryl ensured compliance with CASA and FMG standards and played a crucial role in emergency management due to the remote and isolated location of the site.

Later, they became the Superintendent Aerodrome Safety and Compliance, responsible for the management and compliance of Fortescue Metals Group's certified aerodromes for FIFO charter operations in the Pilbara region. Darryl supervised aerodrome-based supervisors and ground handling staff and was involved in emergency management and safety management systems.

Currently, Evans is serving as the WA Chair of the Australian Airports Association, a role they started in 2023. This position allows him to contribute to the development and advancement of the aviation industry in Western Australia.

Darryl Evans completed the Aerotech LAME's Course to become a Licensed Aircraft Engineer. Darryl also attended Narrogin Agricultural College from 1979 to 1980 and Narrogin Agricultural Senior High School before 1978.
