Senior Reporter, Finance

Fortune is seeking a smart and versatile reporter to lead its finance coverage. This position requires breaking major news while also writing magazine length features about the major companies and players who make up the industry.

You should be versant in banking and traditional Wall Street firms, but also have a strong grasp of the upstart fintech and crypto companies seeking to disrupt them. Most importantly, you should be a good storyteller who can captivate readers with tales about the intersection of money and power.

This job will entail writing features for Fortune’s iconic magazine, but also requires someone capable of writing breaking news and smart analyses that explain the biggest events of the week. The right candidate should have a strong social media game, and be comfortable taking the stage at Fortune’s exclusive conferences around the world.

Primary responsibilities: 

  • Report and write a mix of original stories about banking and Wall Street, from quick-turnaround pieces and scoops to richly reported features and analysis 
  • Develop your own angles to cover within the finance sector, and become an authoritative, must-read reporter covering those angles 
  • Participate in Fortune events and conferences, and write for the print magazine 
  • Uphold Fortune’s standards of journalistic rigor, accuracy, fairness, and quality 

Qualifications:

  • Has extensive experience covering finance news as a beat reporter, including a record of publishing scoops 
  • Has a proven ability to develop sources inside and outside companies 
  • Has strong writing chops and is adept at writing in various story formats and styles 
  • Is an inherently curious and willing to learn on the go 

Location: Our editorial team is based across time zones and international borders. This role can be based in the US, with a strong preference for New York. If you’re based within commuting distance of one of our offices, there will be a minimum of 3 days/week in the office.

Salary Range: $100,000 - $160,000. This range is a good-faith estimate and may ultimately vary based on a number of relevant factors.
