Dr James Gourlay Beng

Dr. James Gourlay is a seasoned professional in the field of optics, currently serving as General Manager and Senior Expert in Optics at FORVIA since July 2025. Prior to this role, Dr. Gourlay held positions as Technical Director and Chief Technology Officer at designLED Products Ltd, a Faurecia Company, from 2004 to August 2025. Additional experience includes serving as OLED Display Packaging Manager at Microemissive Displays from 2000 to 2003, and as a Lecturer and Senior Research Associate at Heriot Watt University from 1996 to 2000. Earlier roles also included Research Assistant positions at Durham University and the University of Edinburgh. Dr. Gourlay earned a PhD in Physics focusing on Liquid Crystal Devices and Applications and a BEng in Physics and Electronics from The University of Edinburgh.
