Robin Hartley-Willows

Robin Hartley-Willows is a Founder and CTO at FourJaw Manufacturing Analytics since 2020. From 2018 to 2020, they worked as a Project Engineer (Software) at AMRC, where they developed and deployed web applications for interactive exploration of ‘big data’, programmed embedded industrial computers for high-end data acquisition, analysed machining data using signal processing and machine learning, designed/developed software and hardware for ‘Internet of Things’ devices, and integrated engineering knowledge into the design and development of software systems. From 2017 to 2018, they worked as a Project Engineer at Fichtner Consulting Engineers Ltd, where they managed on-site sub-contractors, conducted technical troubleshooting during commissioning of process equipment, conducted statistical analysis of solar farm productivity data for acceptance tests, and modelled financial and technical district heating networks. In 2016, they worked as a Summer Internship at Biorenewables Development Centre, where they researched and developed a process flow diagram, conducted a full mass balance, presented costings, unit sizes and CAD drawings, conducted a full competitor analysis, and worked with a range of partners on work package definition and health and safety management. From 2014 to 2015, they worked as a Fundraising Leader and Energy Researcher at Sheffield Engineering Leadership Academy (SELA), where they led the fundraising team to raise £9000 worth of funds through grants and sponsorship, managed relationships with grant donors, interviewed specialists to determine the challenges involved in decarbonising the UK energy network, and presented and explained these challenges through a series of causal loop diagrams. In 2015, they worked as a Summer Internship at Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC) with Boeing, where they managed the delivery, reporting, budget and design of the project, conducted research into available technologies for wireless sensor networks, taught herself two new programming languages and a range of electronic and wireless theory, and independently designed, manufactured and installed both the hardware and software for the proof of concept system. In 2012, they worked as a Researcher at North East Schools in Industry Project, where they identified the optimum conditions to separate an iron binding protein using column chromatography, and won the prize for best poster presentation as well as the Archie Docherty Prize for Chemistry. Additionally, they have various extra-curricular experiences, such as conducting and playing in an improvised jazz band, busking, and creating systems for personal and industrial projects using the Arduino and Raspberry Pi platforms.

Robin Hartley-Willows obtained a Chemical Engineering MEng from The University of Sheffield between 2013 and 2017. Prior to that, they attended Durham Johnston Comprehensive School from 2010 to 2013.
