Nancy S. Niemi

Nancy S. Niemi’s commitment to social equity through education is evidenced in her work with universities across the country and in her research throughout her career. She proudly serves as the President of Framingham State University and her experience in education includes positions as Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs of the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, Professor and Chair of Education at the University of New Haven, and as an elected public school board member.

Niemi has published widely on social equity and on curriculum and instruction. Most recently, she co-authored Course Design and Assessment (2022), and co-edited the Handbook of Gender Equity in Higher Education (2020). Her book, Degrees of Difference: Women, Men, and the Value of Higher Education (2017) explored the relationship between women’s dominance in college degree completion and U.S. socio-cultural gender equity.
