Jo Ellen Cline is a legal and public policy professional with extensive experience in various governmental roles. Currently serving as Chief of Staff for the Franklin County Auditor since March 2019, Cline previously held the position of Legal Analyst/Ethics Officer for Columbus City Council from January 2018 to March 2019. Cline's background includes working as Criminal Justice Counsel for the Ohio Criminal Sentencing Commission from October 2015 to September 2017, where contributions included researching and recommending innovative strategies related to criminal justice. Additionally, Cline was Government Relations Counsel for the Supreme Court of Ohio from August 2001 to October 2015 and served as Assistant State Public Defender from 1999 to August 2001. Cline holds a Doctor of Law (J.D.) from Capital University Law School and a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Political Science from Stetson University.

The auditor's office handles a wide variety of important responsibilities that affect all of Franklin County's residents and businesses. The Auditor serves as the county's chief fiscal officer, safeguarding county money with innovative ideas and initiatives that protect the residents of Franklin County. The office oversees all of the county's weights and measures, ensuring customers get what they pay for at gas pumps and scanners. The office also assesses property values as required by Ohio Legislative Code, and licenses our dogs as required by state law.
