Scott Varner serves as the Director of Communications & Community Outreach at Franklin County Children Services since April 2023. Previously, Varner held various leadership roles within Columbus City Schools, including Executive Director of Family & Student Engagement, where a new Department of Family and Community Engagement was launched, and Executive Director of Strategic Communications and Public Affairs, overseeing communications for Ohio's largest school district. Additional experience includes roles as Senior Creative Director for The Collective Genius, LLC, Public Information coordinator for Franklin County, and Deputy Director of Communications for the Ohio Department of Transportation. Early career positions included communications director roles for Columbus City Council and the City Attorney’s Office, along with a background in television news production at WBNS-TV. Varner earned a Bachelor of Science in Broadcast Journalism and Political Communications from Ohio University.

Franklin County Children Services is a public agency mandated by federal and state laws to protect children from abuse and neglect. In partnership with more than 100 agencies and organizations, and with the help of over 700 employees, 500 kinship caregivers, 200 adoptive families and 500 volunteers and mentors, and hundreds of community foster parents, the agency is committed to making sure that every child has a safe and stable home.
