Iain George has an extensive work experience, beginning in 2008 with a role as a Member Service Assistant at Costco Wholesale. From 2012 to 2015, they were Team Lead, Instructor, and Chief Story Architect for iGEM Calgary, working to build better biosensors for toxins and pathogens. From 2013 to 2019, they held various roles at FREDsense Technologies, including Co-Founder, Operations Manager, and IT Lead. During this time, they were responsible for streamlining accounting and HR processes, designing and implementing the Ubiquiti network infrastructure, and setting up core IT services. From 2019 to 2022, they worked as a Molecular Microbiologist and Molecular Technologist at OSP, providing full-service microbial assessments of oil-field samples and developing, implementing, and documenting an Illumina sequencer for 16S metagenomics analysis. Finally, from 2011 to 2013, they were a PhD Candidate at the University of Calgary, investigating the role that Pumilio proteins have in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression and localization in fission yeast. Iain also served as a Teaching Assistant for Functional Genomics & Molecular Networks and Molecular Analysis of Biological Systems, and as an Undergraduate Researcher. In 2022, they will begin a role as Analytical Performance Manager at Danone.
Iain George has a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Molecular Microbiology from the University of Calgary, obtained in 2019. Iain also has a Bachelor's Degree in Cellular, Molecular and Microbial Biology from the University of Calgary, obtained in 2012. Additionally, they hold certifications from the Alberta Society of Professional Biologists, Canadian Red Cross, and Energy Safety Canada, obtained in 2020, 2019, and 2019 respectively.
