Lead Electrical Engineer at Freeform

Dennis Ren has a diverse work experience in the field of electrical engineering. Dennis is currently working at Freeform as the Lead Electrical Engineer since October 2022. Prior to that, they worked as an Electrical Engineer at Freeform from November 2021 to October 2022. Before joining Freeform, Dennis worked at Apple as a Hardware Design Engineer (Vision Pro) from March 2019 to November 2021. In this role, they were responsible for the end-to-end electrical engineering of optical module boards and interconnects, with a focus on technologies such as iris ID, eye tracking, and face tracking. Dennis also served as the HMD EE owner for the product's pre-silicon development platform.

Dennis had an internship experience at Amazon Lab126 in 2018, where they worked as a Hardware Development Engineer Intern for the Amazon Go team. Due to the NDA, specific details of their work are not available, but they were involved in designing efficient data collection and signal processing tools using Python, NIDAQmx, and QT. Dennis also developed a diagnosis firmware package in C++ to support hardware validation and manufacturing tests.

Additionally, Dennis has experience working at SEDS UCSD as the Colossus Project Manager and Chief Engineer from May 2016 to May 2018. Dennis also served as the Electronic Systems Lead from January 2015 to June 2016. In these roles, they designed and constructed the long-range actuation/ignition system for the Static Fire System Project and the Vulcan-1 Rocket Project, as well as the avionics bay for the Vulcan-1 rocket. The avionics bay was capable of recording GPS data, 3-axis acceleration data, and altitude data for rocket recovery.

Furthermore, Dennis worked as an iPad Systems EE & Core Input Devices Intern at Apple in 2017 and as a Test Equipment Engineering-Mechatronics Intern at Tesla Motors in 2016.

Overall, Dennis Ren has accumulated valuable experience in various aspects of electrical engineering, including hardware design, software development, project management, and system integration.

Dennis Ren began their education at Shawnigan Lake School, where they obtained their High School diploma from 2011 to 2014. Dennis then went on to pursue a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering at UC San Diego from 2014 to 2018. In addition to their formal education, Dennis has also obtained certifications such as the Certified SOLIDWORKS Associate from Dassault Systèmes in December 2016 and the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM): Fire Hazards in Oxygen Systems Training from NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration in May 2016.
