Hendri Silaen is a seasoned geotechnical engineer currently serving as Chief Geomechanical Engineer at Freeport-McMoRan since October 2023, providing support for both open pit and underground geotechnical teams. With extensive experience at Freeport Indonesia from January 2008 to October 2023, Hendri held various leadership roles including Geotechnical Manager for underground mines focused on caving and stoping operations, and General Superintendent for hydrology in underground mines. Prior to this, Hendri managed geotechnical activities in non-mining areas and supervised geotechnical operations at the Grasberg open pit mine. Between September 1999 and December 2007, Hendri worked as a freelance hydrogeologist on multiple groundwater projects across Indonesia. Academic qualifications include a Master’s and Bachelor’s degree in Geological Engineering from Institut Teknologi Bandung, complemented by research in coastal aquifer dynamics and surface-water-groundwater interactions.
