Chance Sparks, AICP, CNU-A has a diverse work experience in urban planning and design, with a focus on community development and city planning. From 2022 to present, Chance has been working at Freese and Nichols, first as an Associate and Group Manager in Urban Planning + Design and then as an Associate in the same field. Prior to that, from 2018 to 2021, Chance worked as an Urban Planner and Project Manager at the same company.

In 2021, Chance also held the position of Immediate Past President at the American Planning Association - Texas Chapter.

Before joining Freese and Nichols, Chance worked at the City of Buda, TX, from 2010 to 2018. Starting as a Planning Director, Chance later became the Assistant City Manager in Community Development.

Chance gained valuable experience at the Texas Department of Rural Affairs from 2009 to 2010, serving as a Senior Program Analyst.

Prior to that, Chance worked at the City of San Marcos from 2006 to 2009. During this time, Chance held various roles including Planning Manager, Chief Planner, and Senior Planner.

Chance's early career includes a position at the City of Bulverde from 2003 to 2006, where Chance served as the Planning and Development Director. Before that, Chance worked as a City Planner and Planning Intern at the same company.

Chance obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Geography with a specialization in Urban and Regional Planning from Texas State University, where they studied from 2000 to 2004. Subsequently, they pursued further education and obtained a Master's degree in Public Administration with a concentration in Urban and Environmental Planning from the same university, studying from 2004 to 2007.

In addition to their academic qualifications, Chance Sparks has also obtained significant certifications. Chance became a certified member of the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) in August 2008. Furthermore, they achieved the Congress for the New Urbanism Accredited Professional certification in March 2012, highlighting their expertise in promoting walkable, mixed-use neighborhood development.
