José María Román has a long and varied work experience. José María began their career in 1998 as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where they studied the suppression of the superconducting order parameter around magnetic impurities in d-wave superconductors and extended the effective theory of spin waves to canted phases. In 2001, Román worked as a Researcher at the Instituto de Física Teórica, CSIC-UAM, where they studied the cyclic flow of the RG and its effects in superconductors and spin chains. José María also worked as a Researcher at the Universidade de Évora, where they described the finite energy 1-D Hubbard model excitations as combinations of spinons and holons.
Román then took on the role of Technical Manager of the PV module production line at Romag Ltd in 2004, where they designed the lamination process for custom made glass-glass solar modules and standard glass-Tedlar modules, and defined the production process for custom-made glass-glass solar modules and glass-Tedlar modules for qualification under IEC 61215 standard. In 2006, they became the Manager of the Photovoltaic Systems Service at the Centro Nacional de Energías Renovables (CENER), where they managed the PV Modules Testing Laboratory and the PV Installation Design group.
Román then moved to Ingenia Solar Energy in 2007, where they served as the Director of the Photovoltaic Systems Quality and Control Laboratory. José María was responsible for quality control measurement of PV modules under international norms, inspections and performance measurements of PV plants, and design and dimensioning of PV plants and production estimates calculations. In 2012, Román became the Laboratory and O&M Services Director in the R&D, Aftersales Service Center at Yingli Green Energy Europe, where they supervised O&M services, generated performance reports, and conducted training courses for O&M testing of PV plants.
Most recently, Román has served as the COO of SP Control Technologies (frenetic.ai) since 2020. In this role, they have managed and organized the company, overseen design and programming works, and complied with the quality management norm ISO 9001. José María has also followed up and compiled the annual justification report for the European Project 953971-FRENETIC.
José María Román attended Universidad del País Vasco/Euskal Herriko Unibertsitatea from 1989 to 1994, where they obtained a BSc in Physics with a focus on Theoretical Physics and Solid State Physics. José María then attended Universitat de Barcelona from 1994 to 1998, where they obtained a Ph.D. in Physics with a focus on Quantum Field Theory and Solid State Physics. From 2003 to 2004, they attended EUREC Agency, where they obtained an MSc in Renewable Energy with a focus on Photovoltaic Solar Energy and Renewable Energy. Finally, from 2009 to 2010, they attended Escuela de Negocios FEDA, where they obtained a Senior Management Course (CADE) in Executive MBA.
