Hans Sauter

VP, Corporate Research & Development & Agricultural Services at Fresh Del Monte Produce

Hans Sauter is the current Vice President of Corporate Research & Development and Agricultural Services at Fresh Del Monte Produce. Hans has over 30 years of experience in the agricultural industry, with a focus on pineapple, banana, and melon operations.

Sauter began their career as a Professor Invitado at the Facultad de Agronomía of the Universidad de Costa Rica. Hans later joined Del Monte Fresh Produce -CECAB, where they served as Senior Director of Agricultural Extension & New Development and was responsible for providing technical support to pineapple, banana & melon operations, overseeing research, operational practices and development of new operations, and supporting varietal development programs. In this role, they also coordinated the implementation of traceability programs (PTI) in Central America, Colombia and Ecuador.

In 2013, Sauter was promoted to Vice President of Agricultural Services & Special Projects at Del Monte Fresh Produce. In this role, they were responsible for overseeing all agricultural operations and special projects for the company.

Prior to joining Del Monte, Sauter served as Research Manager at Pineapple Development Corporation (Pindeco) from 1991-1998 and R&D Plant Protection Superintendent at Banana Development Corporation from 1988-1991.

Hans Sauter attended the INCAE Business School, where they studied administration of businesses. Hans then went on to study entomology at the University of California, Davis. Finally, they became an agronomist at the El Zamorano agricultural school.

Hans Sauter reports to Mohammad Abu-Ghazaleh, Chairman & CEO. Hans Sauter works with Tarek Betti - VP, Global HR, Marlene Gordon - SVP, General Counsel, Corporate Secretary & Chief Compliance Officer, and Hans Sauter - Chief Sustainability Officer.
