On-call Crisis Advocate at Friends of the Family

Susan Cornforth possesses extensive experience in various roles within nonprofit organizations and educational settings. Currently serving as an On-Call Crisis Advocate at Friends of the Family since April 2024, Susan previously held the position of Director of Finance and Operations at Guardians of Northeast Iowa, Inc., from September to December 2023. Susan's roles at Self-Help International spanned from September 2015 to July 2023, including Manager of Administration, Finance, and Technology, as well as US Operations & Administrative Specialist and Administrative Assistant. Additional experience includes serving as a Part-Time Lecturer at Wartburg College, a Benefit Technician at Advantage Administrators, a Volunteer English Teacher at Unidad Academica Campesina, and a Claims Processor at Advantage Administrators. Early career involvement included clerical support at Helping Hands Services. Academic credentials include a Master's Degree in International Development from Saint Mary's University of Minnesota and a Bachelor of Science in Geography from South Dakota State University.

Friends of the Family (FOF) is a nonprofit agency serving Northeast and Northcentral Iowa. Friends of the Family's mission is to provides safe shelter, confidential services, and housing assistance to individuals in crisis due to domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking, and homelessness. Our services cover 27 counties: Allamakee - Benton - Black Hawk - Bremer - Buchanan - Butler - Cerro Gordo - Chickasaw - Clayton - Delaware - Dubuque - Fayette - Floyd - Franklin - Grundy - Hamilton - Hancock - Howard - Jones - Kossuth - Linn - Mitchell - Tama - Winnebago - Winneshiek - Worth - Wright. Our vision is that EVERYONE HAS A HOME. Our agency employs 55 full and part-time staff and hosts approximately 100 volunteers and interns annually. Since we serve 27 counties across Northeast and Northcentral Iowa, and provide assistance to hundreds of families and individuals, we are a grant funded agency that relies heavily on volunteers and donors to help us extend our reach. Any contributions, whether it be monetary, non-monetary, or even helping us get the word out about families'​ needs, make a huge difference in the amount of people we are able to reach with our services.
