Christoph Gatzen

Director at Frontier Economics

Christoph Gatzen has extensive experience in the European energy industry. Christoph began their career in 2002 as a Researcher and Consultant for the Energy Institute at the University of Cologne, where they worked on projects for various companies and authorities in the energy sector. In 2007, they joined Frontier Economics as a Manager, where they worked until 2018. During this time, they advised clients on various aspects of the energy industry, including valuations of assets, due diligence support, regulation, and policy advice. In 2021, Christoph returned to Frontier Economics as an Associate Director in the Energy Practice, based in the Cologne office. Christoph continues to work along the full value chain within the European electricity, gas, and automotive sectors.

Christoph Gatzen has a diverse education history. Christoph started their educational journey in 1994 at RWTH Aachen, where they pursued a degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering. During their time there, they also had the opportunity to study abroad at San Diego State University in 1997-1998, focusing on Civil and Environmental Engineering. In 2000, Gatzen completed their studies at RWTH Aachen and obtained a degree in Dipl.-Ing. Following this, they enrolled at RWTH Aachen again in 2000 to pursue a degree in Industrial Engineering, which they completed in 2002, earning the title of Dipl.-Wirt. Ing.

Continuing their academic pursuits, Gatzen joined Universidad Internacional de Catalunya in 2001 for further studies in Economics, obtaining a degree of Dr. in 2002. Finally, they attended the University of Cologne from 2002 to 2007, specializing in Energy Economics and achieving the degree of Dr rer pol. Throughout their education, Christoph Gatzen focused on a range of subjects including Civil and Environmental Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Economics, and Energy Economics.
