Youmi Jeong

Principal Scientist at FRX Polymers

Youmi Jeong has a long and varied work experience in the field of polymer chemistry. From 2011 to present, they have worked as a Principal Scientist, Senior Scientist, and Advanced Chemist at FRX Polymers, Inc., where they have developed application technology for sustainable FR polyurethane foams, adhesives, and coatings in automotive and B/C applications, and has led the development of polymeric halogen-free flame retardant solutions in thermoplastic and thermoset polymer applications. From 2005 to 2011, they worked as a Post Doctoral Researcher, Research Assistant, and Teaching Assistant at Penn State University, where they conducted research on activated carbons with boron substitution for hydrogen storage, synthesized and characterized boron-containing precursor polymers, synthesized microporous carbons via a unique etching method, synthesized nano metal particles, and designed new anode materials for Li ion batteries and capacitors systems. From 1992 to 2005, they worked as a Senior Research Scientist at LG Chem, where they developed new PBL, ABS, and high nitrile barrier polymers using emulsion polymerization process, developed a transparent barrier film manufacturing process, conducted metallocene polymerization and processing of SPS and the composite with glass fiber for novel engineering plastics, and synthesized and formulated various functional ABS resins and polymer latexes.

Youmi Jeong attended Penn State University from 2005 to 2010, where they earned their Ph. D. in Materials Science and Engineering.
