Aakankshya Kharel

Aakankshya Kharel is a dedicated leader and founder with significant experience in community engagement and youth programs. As the Founder and President of Read-Cycle since August 2018, Aakankshya has successfully delivered over 300 literacy packages to newcomers and refugee youths in Edmonton, Alberta, while coordinating a network of over 150 volunteers and sponsors. Aakankshya holds various leadership positions in the Interdepartmental Science Students' Society, including President, Vice President of Services, and Director of Locker Rentals. Additional roles include Youth Program Coordinator at We and the World Centre and Undergraduate Student Researcher at the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, University of Alberta. Aakankshya also served as Vice President of Marketing for JA Worldwide and worked as a Student Page at Edmonton Public Library. Aakankshya graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Biological Sciences from the University of Alberta in 2023, having previously attended Archbishop Macdonald High School.

The Foundation for Educational Exchange between Canada and the United States of America is a bi-national, treaty-based, non-governmental, not-for-profit organization which was established in 1990 with a mandate to identify the best and brightest minds in both countries and engage them in residential, academic, and professional exchange. The Foundation provides support to students, graduate students, scholars, teachers, and independent researchers through a variety of programs.
