John Kuhlmann

Director, College Access Program at Fulfillment Fund

John Kuhlmann is an educational leader with 20 years of experience working in Los Angeles area schools as a school counselor, college counselor, college instructor, and school site administrator. His work has centered around building college access programs, school-based mental health supports, and implementing innovative researched-based educational practices to improve the academic achievement of all students. As both a first-generation immigrant and first-generation college graduate, John understands the challenges that many students face in their daily lives. He has been an advocate of underrepresented and vulnerable youth populations throughout his career and is passionate about creating equitable opportunities that help students thrive and fulfill their life goals. John has a proven record of improving graduation rates and A-G requirement completion rates of students he has counseled and schools he has led.

John was part of a small cadre of school counselors selected by the College Board to be ambassadors for the National Office for School Counseling Advocacy. In his role as a college counseling leader, John has presented at local, state, and regional counselor conferences represented school counselors in various local college and university advisory committees. He lobbied in Sacramento for improvements to financial aid support for college students as part of the Government Relations and Advocacy Committee for the Western Association for College Admission Counseling. John will use his experience as the Director of College Access to lead and support Fulfillment Fund College Counselors in their work to deliver programs and services to students and partner schools.

John received both his BA in Sociology and MA in School Counseling from California State University Los Angeles and received an MS in School Leadership from California State University Dominguez Hills. He holds a PPS credential in school counseling as well as an administrative credential. He lives in Glendale with his wife and son.
