Fundación Pasqual Maragall
At the Pasqual Maragall Foundation we are working towards a future without Alzheimer’s. Our research focuses on how to stop this disease and prevent its progress before the onset of symptoms, given that any damage it causes in the brain begins decades before the disease manifests itself. We also help to improve the lives of people with the disease and their families by offering therapy groups for caregivers. The Foundation also works to raise the public’s awareness on the effects and consequences of Alzheimer’s and to obtain support for scientific research in this field - the only strategy that will provide us with solutions to these challenges. Our scientific activity is carried out through our research institute, the Barcelonaβeta Brain Research Centre, a one-of-a-kind advanced research institution working in collaboration with Pompeu Fabra University. The aim of this centre is to conduct clinical research on the prevention of Alzheimer’s disease and associated cognitive functions in both healthy and pathological ageing. Our facility offers a range of equipment, including a neuroimaging platform with a state-of-the-art 3T MRI machine, used for obtaining and processing high-quality images of the brain. Although the Pasqual Maragall Foundation is young, it is now well-established and enjoying growth. At present, there are more than 65 employees working for us, a team consisting of researchers, technicians and professionals from the fields of medicine, psychology, biology, and nursing. The foundation also has financial, purchasing, human resources, communication, fund-raising, maintenance and IT departments. And we are not alone. More than 2,700 people altruistically participate in the research studies conducted by our foundation, which also has a network of 15,000 members and contributors.
