Karl Wickens has extensive work experience in the gaming and visual effects industry. Karl began their career at Computer Artworks in 1996 as a Lead Artist, where they led art teams and developed project aesthetics and technical solutions. Karl then worked at Synaptic Soup from 2000 to 2003 as an Art Director, managing the company and art team while also developing the company brand and producing artwork and game content. Karl joined Electronic Arts in 2003 as a Lead VFX Artist, where they conducted research and design for realtime particle effects systems and provided leadership to both internal and outsourced VFX games teams. At Double Negative, Karl held several roles from 2009 to 2017, including Co-Head of 3D, Head of 3D, and Global Head of VFX. Karl was responsible for managing a global team of VFX artists, creating talent tools and processes, and mentoring department heads. Most recently, Karl has been working as an Art Production Director at Criterion Games since 2017, overseeing art production and managing the team. In 2023, they joined Fuse Games as a Studio Technical Art Director.
Karl Wickens earned a BA (Hons) 1st Class degree in Computer Visualisation and Animation from Bournemouth University, where they attended from 1993 to 1996.
