Ian Duffy

Ian Duffy has a diverse work experience in scientific research and development. Ian has worked as a Process Development and Technology Transfer Manager at Fusion Pharmaceuticals since January 2022. Prior to this, they worked as a Scientist II, Radiochemistry at Fusion Pharmaceuticals from April 2020 to January 2022.

Before joining Fusion Pharmaceuticals, Ian worked as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at CAMH from January 2019 to April 2020. In this role, they focused on the development and production of novel carbon-11 and fluorine-18 labelled radiopharmaceuticals for routine pre-clinical PET imaging. Ian also developed a novel [11C]CO2 fixation method employing organostannanes and applied it to the radiosynthesis and isolation of RXR agonist [11C]bexarotene.

Ian's earlier experience includes a Postdoctoral Fellowship at McMaster University from May 2018 to October 2018, where they conducted research in their field of expertise. Ian also worked as a PhD Candidate at McMaster University from September 2010 to March 2018. During their PhD, they synthesized, purified, and characterized temperature and photosensitive organotin compounds, studied the reactions of transient stannylenes in solution, and maintained various instruments.

Ian also gained research experience as a Research Assistant at Xerox from January 2009 to August 2009, where they designed and developed novel compounds for optimizing marking technology. Ian also had a Fall Internship at GlaxoSmithKline Pharma GmbH from September 2008 to December 2008.

In addition, Ian had research opportunities during their undergraduate studies. Ian worked as an Undergraduate Honours Thesis researcher at The University of British Columbia from September 2009 to April 2010. Before that, they worked as a Student Research Associate through NSERC at The University of British Columbia from May 2007 to August 2007.

Ian also contributed to the academic environment during their undergraduate studies. Ian worked as an Undergraduate Teaching Assistant at The University of British Columbia from September 2006 to April 2008 and was responsible for marking assignments and exams in various mathematics courses.

Ian Duffy earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry with honours from The University of British Columbia, completing their studies from 2005 to 2010. Subsequently, they pursued a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Chemistry at McMaster University, completing their studies from 2010 to 2018.
