FuturaGene Ltd.

FuturaGene is a pioneer in the enhancement of yield and sustainability of woody crops for the plantation forestry industry. Our aim is to provide a better future for society by producing more wood using fewer natural resources. Through our expertise in plant genetic research and development, we develop technologies that are applicable to the renewable forestry, biofuels, biopower and biomaterials sectors. Our key crop is subtropical, renewable eucalyptus. With research centers in Brazil and Israel, FuturaGene focuses on two main technological platforms: yield enhancement, to meet growing wood demand, and yield protection, to protect plantation forests from increasing pest and disease threats, caused, inter alia, by climate change. FuturaGene is the first company in the world to have obtained regulatory approval to commercially deploy a yield-enhanced genetically modified eucalyptus variety. This achievement represents a key milestone in the recognition that biotechnology is a key tool for the sustainable intensification of renewable forests. FuturaGene is a wholly owned subsidiary of Suzano of Brazil, the world leader in the production of market pulp from renewable eucalyptus plantations.
