Christian Toelg

Christian Toelg has a diverse work experience spanning several industries and roles. Christian started their career as a researcher at the Max Planck Institute for Metals Research, where they conducted research in synergetics and self-organization. Christian also served as a lecturer in theoretical and applied physics at the University of Stuttgart.

Following this, Toelg worked as a Senior Consultant and Head of Multimedia Business Management at the Fraunhofer Institute for Industrial Engineering (IAO), where they developed video-based applications and led consulting projects for clients such as Daimler Benz, Deutsche Telekom, and Siemens. Christian also coordinated Fraunhofer IAO's activities in South-East Asia.

Toelg then joined Bertelsmann mediaSystems, now arvato systems, as a Senior Consultant in mediaTechnologies. Christian established and coordinated the company's technology think tank, scouting new technologies and providing strategic recommendations to Bertelsmann AG and its divisions. Christian also conducted technical and business due diligence for start-ups and expansion projects.

Christian later became the Chief Operating Officer at TopicalNet Europe Inc., a joint venture between Bertelsmann AG and TopicalNet Inc. Christian successfully rolled out the TopicalNet Classifier product, which automatically indexes and classifies digital content.

In their role as a Consultant at Incipient Inc., Toelg closed the first joint development and OEM agreements with storage hardware vendors and finalized the company's business plan.

Toelg then joined NEC Laboratories America, Inc. as the Director of Business Development. Christian focused on new business development based on technologies developed at NEC Labs, particularly in storage technologies, optical networking, and machine learning. Christian also spearheaded product and project management activities.

As a Management Consultant at CT Management Consulting, Toelg provided consulting services for clients.

Toelg also has experience in establishing and leading organizations. Christian acted as the Director of Entrepreneurship and Director of R&D at GIZ/Polytechnic of Namibia, where they founded and established the Namibia Business Innovation Centre (NBIC). Christian implemented entrepreneurship and incubation programs and acquired funding for various programs and infrastructure.

Currently, Toelg holds the position of Vice President of Product Management at FutureProof Retail. Christian is responsible for developing line-free checkout and service counter solutions, allowing customers to scan, pay, and walk out of the store without waiting in line. Christian also oversees the pre-ordering system, which allows customers to order from their smartphones and collect their purchases at the store.

Christian Toelg earned a Ph.D. in Theoretical Physics and Synergetics from the University of Stuttgart and Max-Planck-Institute for Metals Research, which they attended from 1991 to 1995. Prior to that, they completed their M.S. (Diplom) in Physics at the University of Stuttgart from 1986 to 1992. Additionally, from 1993 to 1996, Toelg pursued a B.A. equivalent degree in Business Administration at the University of Hagen.
