Richard Barbarino works through design both technically and aesthetically in all project phases. He places a high priority on materials selection, research, and detailing, and has worked on a wide array of projects at FXCollaborative, including educational, commercial, institutional, retail, master planning, and façade systems. Richard ensures that projects smoothly transition from design through construction by addressing issues related to code, system and material performance, and overall coordination at projects’ earliest phases.
Driven to pursue architecture from a very young age, Richard has been a part of the industry since high school, when he began taking technical courses and working in architectural firms. He is a graduate of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and Columbia University, where he formed strong interests in material exploration and technical coordination, which continue to define his professional approach.
Richard looks at the impact of and on the community to create buildings that are adherent to context and location. Considering both the micro and macro scales, Richard aims to ensure that the end product matches the design intent and is functional yet striking.
