Ben Kortlang brings over 15 years of investment experience in venture capital and growth equity to his role as a G2 founding partner. Previously, Ben led investments for Kleiner Perkins’ $1B Green Growth Fund, where he focused on smart grid, big data and renewable energy. A number of Ben’s portfolio companies have been acquired or gone public, including OSIsoft (shares sold to SoftBank and Mitsui), Opower (acquired by Oracle), Silver Spring Networks (SSNI) and Enphase (ENPH). Ben sits on the board of Enphase Energy (ENPH) and G2 portfolio companies Arcadia, ProducePay, Sunfolding and Scandit, as well as Luminar (LAZR) from 2019-2021.
Before joining Kleiner Perkins, Ben co-led Goldman Sachs’ alternative energy investing business, managing its multibillion-dollar portfolio of alternative energy investments. During his eight-year tenure at Goldman, he also led the private equity investing business within Goldman’s special situations group and served as a vice president in Goldman’s investment banking group with a focus on industrials and natural resources. Earlier in his career, Ben was an associate with A.T. Kearney, a global strategy and operations management-consulting firm, and was a business analyst at National Australia Bank, working in strategic planning and macroeconomic forecasting.
Ben holds a B.A. degree in economics and finance from RMIT University, a Bachelor of Commerce and an honors degree in econometrics from the University of Melbourne, and an M.B.A. from the University of Michigan.
