James Porter has extensive work experience in the field of software engineering. James is currently employed at Gaine since 2019 as a Senior Software Development Engineer. Prior to that, from 2012 to 2019, they worked at North Plains Systems as a Senior Software Engineer, where they were responsible for designing and implementing components to export data from MySQL into Solr, along with creating REST APIs for searching and filtering data assets. From 2008 to 2012, they worked at Xinet as a Senior Software Engineer, where they designed server-side applications for video and interactive workflows in a Digital Asset Management system. At Symantec, from 2002 to 2008, they held the position of Senior Principal Software Engineer, working on the design and implementation of enterprise software products. James also worked at VERITAS Software from 2002 to 2005 as a Senior Principal Software Engineer, focusing on the user interface design and implementation of Administration Console and Agent user interfaces. Their earlier work experience includes positions at IPTech Inc. from 1995 to 2002, where they served as a software engineer and development lead for a distributed prepress workflow solution, and at Hyphen from 1990 to 1995, where they worked on a UNIX-based OPI solution called Spectraserver.

James Porter attended the University of East Anglia from 1987 to 1990, where they pursued a BSc in Computer Science.
