GAINESVILLE FIRE RESCUE
Brett Thomas is a seasoned professional in emergency services and linguistics, currently serving as the SWAT Medic Team Leader and Lieutenant with Gainesville Fire Rescue since March 2019. With a career spanning over a decade, Brett Thomas has held various positions, including Firefighter and Firefighter/Paramedic with the City of Gainesville since January 2009, and SWAT Medic from September 2014 to February 2020. Additionally, Brett Thomas has experience as an adjunct instructor at Florida Gateway College between 2014 and 2016 and served as an Aeromedical Evacuation Technician in the US Air Force Reserve from June 2009 to April 2012. Prior military service includes being a Russian Cryptologic Linguist in the United States Marine Corps from September 2002 to August 2007. Brett Thomas holds an Associate of Arts degree in General Studies from Florida State College of Jacksonville and an Associate of Arts degree in Russian Studies from the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center.

Gainesville Fire Rescue’s vision is to recognized as the model of excellence by the provisions of our services. We currently operate eight fire stations with advanced life support and one airport fire station that operates with basic life support. We have 200 full time budgeted positions and run an approx 20,000 emergency calls per year.
