David Black

SVP Operations, Quality Assurance, Regulatory Affairs and Clinical Operations at Galen Robotics

David Black has extensive experience in the medical device industry, with a strong background in operations and quality management. David has held various leadership roles in different companies. Their most recent position was as the SVP of Operations, Quality Assurance, Regulatory Affairs, and Clinical Operations at Galen Robotics since January 2018. Prior to that, they were the Co-CEO and Co-Founder of Chrysalis Medical starting from June 2014.

Before that, David served as the Vice President of Operations and R&D at Viveve, Inc. from January 2016 to January 2018. David also worked as the SVP of Engineering, Operations & Quality at Trak Surgical, a privately funded medical device start-up, from March 2013 to August 2014, where they led the daily functions of the business and established a compliant quality system.

David was the Vice President of R&D, Operations, and Quality at Tibion Corporation, a venture-funded medical device start-up, from 2011 to 2012. David successfully reduced cost of goods from $16K to $6K during their tenure. David also held the role of Vice President of Manufacturing Operations at Stellartech Research Corporation from 2009 to 2011, leading the execution of contract manufacturing operations.

Prior to that, David worked as the Vice President of Operations & Plant Manager at Boston Scientific from 2006 to 2009, overseeing manufacturing operations and managing a large team of 400 employees. David also held leadership positions at Eksigent and BC Tech, managing operations and quality functions.

David's career in the medical device industry began as the Senior Director of Operations at Eklin Medical Systems in 2003. Throughout their career, they have demonstrated strong leadership skills, executing strategic plans, and achieving operational excellence in various organizations.

David Black started their education by attending Santa Monica High School from 1977 to 1980, where they obtained their high school diploma. Afterward, they enrolled at the United States Military Academy at West Point and graduated in 1984 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering. In the same year, they also received the certification of Engineer in Training (EIT) from the Commonwealth of Virginia. Later, David pursued further education and completed a Master of Business Administration degree in Executive Management from Saint Mary's College of California between 1994 and 1996. Additionally, they obtained a certification in Economics and Accounting from UC Berkeley Extension, although the exact start and end years for this certification are unknown.
