Joel Backaler

Joel Backaler is an experienced professional in risk technology and analytics, currently serving as Director and Analyst at Gartner since March 2024. Prior to this role, Joel held the position of Head of Strategy at FiscalNote from November 2021 to March 2024, and was Managing Director at FrontierView from December 2017 to November 2021, where the company was subsequently acquired by FiscalNote. Joel has also worked at Frontier Strategy Group, where roles included Director, Senior Manager, and Regional Lead for APAC. Earlier experience includes serving as a Strategy Consulting Analyst at Atos and as a Fulbright Scholar. Joel's educational background includes a Certificate from MIT Sloan Executive Education in Artificial Intelligence for Business Strategy, a Certificate in International Business Management from Georgetown University, a B.A. in Economics and East Asian Studies from Connecticut College, and a Post Graduate qualification in Advanced Chinese Language Training from Tsinghua University.
