Mark Yong

CEO and co-founder at Garuda Robotics

Mark Yong has a diverse range of work experience. Mark is the CEO and co-founder of Garuda Robotics, a position they have held since November 2013. Mark is also involved in various roles at the Singapore Standards Council, including being a Co-Convenor of the Working Group on Drones for Chemical Industry Operations and the Building Façade Inspection Unmanned Aerial Systems Working Group, and a member of the UAS Manufacturing Working Group. Mark is an Advisory Committee and Member of the Singapore UAS Community. Mark has also served as a keynote speaker and panelist for various events since 2013. Additionally, Mark served as the Vice President and founding member of the Singapore Chapter of AUVSI starting from March 2016. Prior to their current positions, they worked as a Lecturer and Senior Tutor at Nanyang Technological University, teaching computer engineering courses and winning the Nanyang Education Award. Mark also has experience as an Instructor and Advisor at Tinkertanker, a Graduate Research Assistant at the University of Michigan, and as a Full-time National Serviceman in the Singapore Armed Forces. Mark's early career includes working as a Program Assistant at Carnegie Mellon University, where they designed and built robots for human-robot disaster rescue teams and organized the US Robocup Rescue League 2003.

Mark Yong has a strong educational background in the fields of computer science, electrical and computer engineering, and economics. Mark obtained a Master of Science degree in Computer Science from the University of Michigan from 2008 to 2010. Prior to that, they pursued a Master of Science degree in Electrical & Computer Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University in 2003 and 2004. Mark also holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical & Computer Engineering, with a minor in Economics, from Carnegie Mellon University, which they completed from 2000 to 2004.

Before their college education, Mark attended Raffles Institution from 1994 to 1997 and again from 1998 to 1999. However, no information regarding degrees or specific fields of study is available for their time at Raffles Institution.

In addition to their academic qualifications, Mark has obtained an Unmanned Aircraft Pilot License (Multirotor up to 25kg) from the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore. However, details such as the month and year of obtaining this certification are not provided.
