David W. Salzman

Founder & CEO at Gatehouse Bio

David W. Salzman has extensive experience in research and development in the biotechnology field. David W. started their career in 2004 as a Graduate Research Associate at the University of Connecticut Health Center, where they identified factors required for miRNA biogenesis and function in vitro and in vivo. David W. pioneered the development of a dual-luciferase reporter assay to measure miRNA function in cells and developed two highly-specific and ultra-sensitive mAbs against Dicer. Their graduate work resulted in two peer-reviewed publications.

In 2009, Salzman began a Postdoctoral Fellowship at Yale University School of Medicine. David W. managed the workflow and contributed to three concurrent projects between cross-functional groups of researchers and clinicians. Their postdoctoral work resulted in six peer-reviewed publications (two in Nature Publishing Group) and over $500K in funding.

In 2014, Salzman joined Biogen as a Scientist. David W. planned, developed and implemented fit-for-purpose PD and biomarker assays to support Biogen's antisense oligo (ASO) pipeline. David W. was accountable for meeting project deadlines, ELN documentation, writing and delivery of reports, presenting results and using data to drive decision-making.

In 2015, Salzman joined MiraDx, Inc. as the Lead of miRNA Diagnostics and Radiogenomics Program. David W. led research and development to deliver new cancer diagnostics for MiraDx's biomarker portfolio. Their work resulted in the generation of three biomarker panels to predict radiation toxicity, and anti-PD-1 response and toxicity for use as patient enrollment and stratification biomarkers.

In 2018, Salzman founded and became the CEO of Gatehouse Bio.

David W. Salzman completed a Postgraduate Fellowship at Yale University School of Medicine from 2009-2014, where they studied Therapeutic Radiology and Translational Science. Prior to that, they obtained a Ph.D. in Molecular Biology and Biochemistry from The University of Connecticut Health Center from 2004-2009.
