Alex Chen is the VP, Product & Co-Founder at Gather. Prior to joining Gather, Alex worked as a software engineering intern at Facebook, Pure Storage, Twitch, and InterSystems.

At Facebook, Alex developed XMA Messages on Facebook Web using React.js, ReasonML, GraphQL, and PHP. XMAs are augmented messages that feature buttons, images, videos, and or text. Alex also created a developer tool for users to test XMAs in a sandbox. In addition, Alex created a new “Partial Render” caching strategy for Facebook’s GraphQL query pipeline and optimized performance on queries in both Android and IOS.

At Pure Storage, Alex upgraded the backend of Flash Arrays to support encryption through SNMP v3. Alex also implemented UI (GUI, REST, CLI) for additional security credentials and brought in support for confirming the reception of failure messages through SNMP Informs.

At Twitch, Alex worked as a software engineering intern in January 2017.

At InterSystems, Alex worked as a software engineering intern from June 2016 to August 2016.

Alex Chen went to Davis Senior High School and then attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where they earned their Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering computer science.

A direct report to Alex Chen is and Jessica Sun - Product Manager. Alex Chen works with David Rudman - Head of People Operations, Stephanie Chung - VP, Operations, and Parker Null - Head of Information Security. Their manager is Phillip Wang, CEO & Co-Founder.
