Simon Allan has extensive experience in the field of global health and development. Simon most recently served as the Head of Portfolio and Product Management for COVAX at Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance. In this role, Simon developed and managed the strategy for COVAX's portfolio of 2 billion COVID-19 vaccines, valued at over $10 billion, which were delivered to more than 140 participating countries. Simon monitored market dynamics, identified risks and opportunities, and adjusted the strategy accordingly.
Prior to their role at Gavi, Simon worked at MedAccess, a social finance company focused on improving access to affordable medical products in low- and middle-income countries. As a Development Impact Executive, they built models to estimate the impact of MedAccess' deals on saving lives, saving money, and shaping the markets they worked in. This information was used to support investment decisions and inform future priority-setting.
Simon also has consulting experience at Dalberg, a mission-driven strategy consulting firm specializing in international development. Simon held various roles at Dalberg, including Project Manager, Senior Consultant, Consultant, Associate Consultant, and Analyst. In these roles, they advised clients on issues such as health systems strengthening, health financing, product development, and supply chain management. Simon worked with a diverse range of clients, including multilateral organizations, governments, foundations, NGOs, and private sector actors in the global health space.
Before joining Dalberg, Simon worked with Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) as an Economics and Policy Officer. Simon focused on improving access to essential medicines in developing countries, estimating the financial contribution of the Australian government to HPV vaccine research and development, and assessing the effectiveness of vaccine procurement mechanisms.
Simon started their career as an intern at UBS Investment Bank.
Simon Allan has a Masters in Public Health from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, University of London. Simon also holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from the University of Cambridge.
