Joe Kmetz

Joe Kmetz is a seasoned engineering professional with a diverse background in code compliance and construction oversight. Currently serving as the Building Code Services Lead and Fire Protection Engineer at GBA since February 2019, Joe previously held positions as a Plans Review Engineer and Construction Code Inspector for the City of Kansas City, MO, where responsibilities included conducting thorough inspections and analyzing plans for code compliance. Earlier experience includes serving as a Staff Engineer at UES Consulting, Inc., where Joe performed Property Condition Assessments, and as a Remote Solar Designer at Sungevity, focusing on designing solar-electric systems. Joe's career began with internships at Gates Corporation and MidAmerican Energy, where foundational experiences in industrial and renewable energy contexts were gained. Joe holds a Bachelor of Science in Engineering with a Mechanical Focus from John Brown University, complemented by studies at Iowa State University.
