Robert Smith

Rob has more than 30 years’ experience in the electric utility industry and is a shareholder and member of the Firm’s Board of Directors. He joined the firm at its inception in 1986 and serves clients in both litigation and consultation capacities in the area of transmission pricing and other regulatory matters surrounding open access transmission rates. Having participated in numerous transmission formula rate filings, he is one of the foremost experts on FERC formula rates practicing before the FERC. Rob has also submitted testimony in dozens of cases at FERC and various state commissions on behalf of public power clients looking to fight transmission rate increases.

Rob began his consulting career in 1982 with Southern Engineering Company working for the future founders of GDS. At Southern and in the early days of GDS, he represented cooperative clients in numerous regulated rate filings at state public service commissions in the 1980’s and 1990’s. During that time, he also represented public power clients in dozens of investor-owned wholesale rate increase filings at the FERC.
