Alex Chen

Stem Cell Scientist at Gelmedix

Alex Chen has worked in a variety of research roles since 2013. Alex began their career as an Undergraduate Research Assistant at New York University, where they focused on identifying the roles of MAPK and CREB-mediated transcription during long-term memory formation in Aplysia californica. From 2013-2015, they were a Research Assistant at the University of Michigan, where they identified genes involved with temperature sensation in Caenorhabditis elegans. Alex also held the role of Graduate Student Researcher and Graduate Student Instructor at the University of Michigan from 2015-2021. Alex's research focus during this period was investigating history-dependent effects on cellular, molecular, and physiology mechanisms of synaptic plasticity. In 2014, they worked as a Research Assistant at Brown University, where they designed an novel optogenetics system to spatially activate dopaminergic neurons during alcohol-induced behaviors in Drosophila melanogaster. Most recently, they have been a Scientist I at New Age Meats since 2021, and is currently a Stem Cell Scientist at GelMEDIX since 2022.

Alex Chen attended New York University from 2011 to 2015, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience. Alex then continued their education at the University of Michigan, graduating in 2021 with a Doctor of Philosophy in Neuroscience.
