Edward Johnson

Edward Johnson has extensive experience in the gem and jewellery industry, with a focus on promoting sustainability and responsible business practices. Their work experience includes roles such as Corporate Responsibility Director at Gemfields Group, where they oversee the creation of positive impact in Africa through responsibly sourced coloured gemstones. Edward also founded Edward Johnson Consulting, where they support businesses in the gem and jewellery supply chain to implement environmental and social best practices. Additionally, they have worked as a Business Development Consultant at CIBJO, the World Jewellery Confederation, and as Director of Business Development at the Responsible Jewellery Council. Edward has also held various positions at GIA, including Director of Global Business Development and Director of London Education. Edward has experience in independent jewellery appraisal, gemmological consultancy, and teaching roles as well. Edward Johnson attended St Edward's School, Oxford from 1981 to 1986. Edward then obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree with honors in Combined Honours focusing on African and Development Studies from the University of Liverpool, from 1987 to 1990. Following that, they attended the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) from 1995 to 1996, where they earned a GG degree in Gemology.
