Kathryn Gunther Leal

Kathryn (Katie) Gunther Leal is a seasoned professional in the field of genetic counseling, currently serving as a Regional Account Executive at GeneDx since August 2025, focusing on the southeast region of Texas. Prior experience includes roles as a Genetic Counselor and Assistant Professor at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston from May 2018 to July 2025, where contributions were made as a NICU consult genetic counselor and an instructor in Pediatrics. Katie also held the position of Medical Genomics Laboratory Teaching Assistant at UAB Genetics from August 2017 to December 2018, assisting in a tier one testing center for Neurofibromatosis and RASopathies. Additional experience includes completing Clinical Rotations in Cancer Genetics at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and serving as a Graduate Teaching Assistant for UAB's genetic counseling program. Katie earned a Master's degree in Genetic Counseling from the University of Alabama at Birmingham between 2016 and 2018, and earlier received a Bachelor of Science in Biology/Mathematics from the University of Alabama from 2012 to 2015.
