Sophie Brookes

Sophie Brookes has a diverse work experience spanning over several organizations and roles. Sophie is currently working as the Assistant Director of Corporate Affairs at the General Medical Council since January 2021. Prior to this, they held various positions at The Law Society, including Director of Strategy and Planning from January 2019 to December 2020, Chief of Staff from January 2017 to December 2018, Head of Executive Office from January 2015 to December 2016, and Head of Relationship Management (Secondment) from April 2014 to January 2015. Before their time at The Law Society, Sophie worked at the Legal Services Commission as the Head of Social Welfare Law from May 2007 to April 2009, and at Citizens Advice as the Legal Services Policy & Development Manager from May 2004 to May 2007. Their earlier roles include working at the National Debtline / Birmingham Settlement in various capacities from July 1994 to October 2002 and serving as the Welfare Officer at Leeds University Union from October 1992 to July 1994.

Sophie Brookes attended the University of Birmingham from 1988 to 1993. During their time there, they pursued a degree in Politics and Sociology and successfully completed their studies with a 2.1 classification.
