Matthew Turpin

Matthew Turpin is a seasoned software engineer with extensive experience in robotics and perception software development. Currently serving as a Generalist at a company since June 2025, Turpin previously held the position of Perception Software Technical Lead at Boston Dynamics from August 2018 to June 2025, where leadership was provided for the Handle and Stretch perception teams as well as the Trailer Unload Application. Prior roles include Staff Research Engineer at Qualcomm, focusing on aerial robot flight control and autonomous vehicle research from February 2015 to June 2018, and Senior Research Engineer at KMel Robotics. Turpin's early experience includes an internship at Kiva Systems in 2013. Academically, Turpin holds a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Mechanical Engineering with a focus on Robotics from the University of Pennsylvania and a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Northwestern University.
