In 2018, they gave a talk at the British Science Association SciBar and won the Newcastle University Insights Public Lecture Prize. Her article published in REACT Science magazine in 2017.

Clare Willis has a Doctor of Philosophy from Newcastle University in the field of Microbiology and Genetics, as well as an MBiochem from the University of Oxford in Biochemistry, Molecular and Cellular Biology. Clare also attended Durham Johnston Comprehensive School.
