Jaemo Yang

Senior Scientist of R&D, Molecular Lab Supervisor at Genetworx

Jaemo Yang has a diverse work experience in scientific research, primarily in the fields of molecular biology and plant sciences. Jaemo currently works at GENETWORx as a Senior Scientist of R&D and Molecular Lab Supervisor. In this role, they are responsible for establishing the validation of qualitative analysis for screening infectious pathogens and ABR genes in various samples. Jaemo has also set up sequencing protocols and validated the SARS-CoV-2 genome sequence and human cancer gene panel sequencing.

Prior to this, Jaemo worked at Altria as a Principal Scientist I and later as a Senior Research Scientist. During their time at Altria, they led a research group and collaborated with other functional teams, launching new projects and providing scientific expertise for business needs. Jaemo also developed commercial tobaccos with sucker control capabilities. Additionally, they worked on various research projects, including new trait development of commercial tobacco varieties, and set up tobacco tissue culture systems, genetic transformation systems, and molecular biology techniques.

Before joining Altria, Jaemo worked at Lancaster Laboratories as a Senior Scientist, where they worked closely with Altria scientists and was eventually hired by Altria. Jaemo worked on a project focused on controlling axillary bud outgrowth in commercial tobaccos, profiling gene expression in axillary buds.

Earlier in their career, Jaemo worked as a Research Scientist at the Donald Danforth Plant Science Center, where they worked under the supervision of Dr. RN Beachy. Jaemo launched projects, worked independently, taught technicians, mentored summer interns, and built collaborations with interdisciplinary teams. Jaemo'sproject focused on the application of a gene switch system to plant metabolic engineering, resulting in achievements such as enhancing drought tolerance and reducing lignin content in Arabidopsis and Maize.

At Michigan State University, Jaemo worked as a Research Assistant, studying genomics of wood formation in black locust. Jaemo analyzed heartwood formation using genomics and biochemistry tools and studied xylogenesis in Arabidopsis and Poplar.

Earlier in their career, Jaemo worked as a Senior Researcher at Kumho Life and Environmental Science Laboratory.

Overall, Jaemo Yang's work experience showcases their expertise in molecular biology, genetics, plant sciences, and research project management.

Jaemo Yang attended Yonsei University where they earned a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in Biology, General. Later, they pursued a Master's Degree in the same field at the same institution. Following their studies at Yonsei University, they went on to pursue a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Plant Breeding and Genetics at Michigan State University, which they completed in the year 2004.
