Mark Wood

Mark Wood has extensive work experience in the field of chemistry and drug delivery. Mark has held various positions in different biopharmaceutical companies and research institutions.

Beginning in 2000, Mark worked as a Lab Technician at SGS AXYS as a part of a co-op program. Mark then joined the University of Victoria in 2001 as a Research Assistant, where they focused on synthesizing organic ligands for lanthanide metal complexes.

In 2002, Mark held co-op positions at MethylGene Inc. and AnorMED, where they contributed to research projects involving the synthesis of anticancer pharmaceuticals and potential HIV inhibitors.

Mark furthered their career at Cardiome Pharma Corp as a Research Associate from 2003 to 2004, where they played a key role in synthesizing and characterizing small organic molecules for the potential treatment of atrial fibrillation.

From 2007 to 2009, Mark worked at Xenon Pharmaceuticals Inc. as a Research Associate II in Medicinal Chemistry.

In 2009, Mark joined Arbutus Biopharma Corporation as a Research Scientist, specializing in chemistry and drug delivery. Mark was promoted to the role of Sr. Scientist in 2016 and continued working until 2018.

Since 2018, Mark has been employed at Genevant Sciences, initially as a Sr. Scientist in Chemistry. Technology Development and later as a Principal Scientist in Chemistry.

Overall, Mark Wood has amassed significant experience and expertise in the field of chemistry, with a focus on medicinal chemistry, synthesis, purification, and characterization of small organic molecules for drug development.

Mark Wood completed their Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry (Co-op) from the University of Victoria from 1997 to 2003. Following this, they pursued a Master of Science degree in Chemistry at The University of British Columbia, which they successfully completed from 2004 to 2006. In 2008, Mark attended UC San Diego Extended Studies to participate in an intensive program focused on Medicinal Chemistry. No degree was awarded for this program.
