Athanasios Kousathanas

Athanasios (Thanos) Kousathanas is a Principal Genomics Data Scientist at Genomics England since March 2020, leading projects in collaboration with big Pharma, focusing on experimental design and statistical analysis of multi-omics data. Prior roles include Senior Genomics Data Scientist at the University of Lausanne, where analysis of large genetic and phenotypic databases was performed, and Bayesian machine learning models were developed for complex trait analysis. Thanos also served as a Roux-Cantarini fellow at Institut Pasteur, conducting research on human population genetics and RNA virus evolution, and as a research scientist at the University of Fribourg, where high-dimensional machine learning methods were applied to study Influenza virus evolution and ancient DNA. Educational qualifications include a PhD in Statistical Population Genomics from The University of Edinburgh and a Bachelor's degree in Biology from the University of Ioannina.
