Matías Gutiérrez

Matías Gutiérrez, Ph.D., is founder of two life science companies. He is Chief Executive Officer of GenoSUR, a molecular diagnostics company headquartered in Miami, Florida, and Chief Product Officer of Bioquímica CL, a contract manufacturing organization (CMO) and GenoSUR’s parent company, located in Santiago, Chile.

A serial entrepreneur, Dr. Gutiérrez co-founded and was CEO of Bioquímica, an organization that started out as a social network to promote applied sciences in biotechnology, developing science education curriculums that were implemented in public school systems throughout Latin America. Through his vision, the company began to research and develop molecular diagnostics products and eventually evolved into a leading CMO in Chile.

His breakthrough technology product, GenoSUR’s SafeSample™, is a sample collection and transport device that inactivates the SARS-CoV-2 virus, rendering it safe and noninfectious to researchers and transport personnel. SafeSample preserves optimal sample quality and requires no cold chain supply or cold storage.

Dr. Gutiérrez earned a Bachelor of Science degree in biology and a Ph.D. in molecular biology from the Andrés Bello National University (Universidad Nacional Andrés Bello), in Santiago, Chile.
