Ben Nickels

Ben Nickels has a diverse work experience in various organizations. Ben served as the Director of the European Security Seminar - South and a Professor of International Security Studies at the George C. Marshall Center starting in November 2018. Prior to that, they were the Academic Chair and Associate Professor for Counterterrorism and Counterinsurgency, Transnational Threats and Counterterrorism, and Assistant Professor for Transnational Threats and Counterterrorism at the Africa Center for Strategic Studies from 2011 to 2018. Ben worked as a Faculty Researcher at the National Consortium for the Study of Terrorism and Responses to Terrorism in 2010. Ben also served as an Analyst/Teams Supervisor at the US Army, Military Awards Branch and as a Managing Editor at Heldref Publications in 2008 and 2007 respectively.

Ben Nickels has a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in an unspecified field of study from the University of Chicago, which they obtained from 2000 to 2007. Prior to that, they earned a Master of Arts (MA) degree from the University of Chicago in 2000. Ben also has a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, which they completed from 1992 to 1996.
