John Day

John Day is the current CEO at George Smith Partners. Prior to this, they served as the Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary for The L&R Group of Companies from 2006 to 2014. In this role, they oversaw all legal matters related to company functions, including parking operations, contract negotiation and compliance, employee matters, real estate acquisition and development, and litigation. John was also involved in the legal planning and decision-making process of all company activities to ensure the protection of both company and client interests, while simultaneously supporting legal compliance.

Some of their key accomplishments during their time at The L&R Group of Companies include: drafting and negotiating real estate purchase and sale agreements (and conducting/directing associated due diligence), commercial loan transaction/finance documents, joint venture and limited liability company operating agreements, lease agreements, property management agreements, listing agreements, access agreements, landlord subordination and consent agreements, easement agreements and condemnation settlements; negotiating/managing real estate investment vehicles (retail, parking, distressed asset funds), including negotiation of general partner JV arrangements and limited partner documentation, and supervising fund deal flow (vetting prospects for Investment Committee, i.e., pro-forma responsibility, and related legal work).

John Day has a long history of protecting both company and client interests while simultaneously supporting legal compliance. John is an experienced negotiator and manager, with a keen eye for detail. John is a valuable asset to any organization.

John Day has a Juris Doctor from UC Berkeley School of Law (Boalt Hall), an MBA from the University of Southern California, a Ph.D. in Rhetoric/Philosophy of Language from the University of Southern California, and a BA in Philosophy/Political Science from the University of Southern California. John also has a certification from the State of California in CalDRE Salesperson's License ID No. 02046349.
